School Leavers Mass Wednesday 17th June
The Dunstan Catholic Education Trust schools and schools from Whiltshire, Somerset, Baines and South Gloucester came together to celebrate the Year 6 pupils leaving schools in the summer. Mass was celebrated by Bishop Bosco with Mgr Liam Slattery, Father Thomas Lawes, Father Joseph Meigh, Father Michael Thomas, Father Vincent Curtis, Deacon Paul Brandon and Deacon Lawerence McCarthy. Thomas from St John’s Catholic Primary School in Trowbridge proclaimed the first reading from the Prophet Jeremiah. Anais from St Joseph and St Teresa in Wells read the second reading, the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians beautifully. Music was led by Richard Jeffrey-Gray and Alex Robinson, the Choral Director of the National Schools Singing Programme with the combined choirs from St George’s Catholic Primary, Warminster and Corpus Christi Catholic Primary, Weston-Super-Mare. The psalm singers Amelia, Kayden, Tom and Ruby were exquisite.
In the Homily Bishop Bosco used the readings to explain how deeply the pupils are loved by God and their families. He thanked the teachers and explained that alongside their parents they had taught them courage and resilience. They had picked them up when they needed it and seen their gifts and talents and helped to develop them. Bishop Bosco reminded them of the care their parents give them; by helping them and going out of their way to take them places. He reminded them that they are loved by God more than they can possibly imagine. Bishop Bosco encouraged them not to change when they go to secondary school. He suggested that they could be the person who includes everyone, who offers kindness and who has faith in others and themselves. Bishop Bosco reminded them that Jesus is present in our ordinary lives as well as in church and will be walking alongside them as they take their next steps.
We said goodbye to Mrs Emma Dixon who is leaving Wardour Catholic Primary School this summer and thanked her for the years of dedicated service she has given to the school.
We wish all our school leavers well in their new schools.
